Yeleyamba graduates first Gr.10’s
All 32 pioneer students of Yeleyamba Junior High School in Milne Bay's Samarai-Murua District have secured places to advance education next year.
Despite being the province's newest high school, the 32 pioneers done exceptionally well proved to beat the odds.
It's still a work in progress, many issues plague Yeleyamba Junior High from a lack of infrastructure to teachers' houses to water supply, but through it all, the school survived this academic year.
The school excelled well and graduated the pioneer students last Friday, of which, 2 have been selected to schools of excellence, 16 to neighboring Misima High School and the rest put through Milne Bay's highly successful FODE system to better their grades.
Yeleyamba President Bernard Jack says this was a fruit of determination to enable their children to graduate at a high school on home soil and it will remain a proud moment.
Milne Bays Education Advisor Roma Tuidam meantime encouraged that a new school that has already stamped its mark is evidence anyone of them can make it far in life through education as have who have gone before them.
"I make reference to the plane that was piloted by a son of Milne Bay and recently landed in Gurney airport from Canada, the sky is the limit for Milne Bay students."Tuidam commented.
Yeleyamba Junior High is the newest high school in Milne Bay, bringing the total to 13, its first Grade10 examination this year saw them register a respectable 7th place.
