Remmie elected deputy governor of West Sepik

West Sepik Provincial Assembly has elected president of Telefomin rural Local-level Government [LLG], Benny Remmie, as the new deputy governor of West Sepik.

The election was held during a Provincial Assembly sitting in Vanimo and was conducted through a secret ballot, following the rules and procedures of the Assembly. A total of 25 Assembly Members took part in the vote, forming the required quorum.

Remmie is currently serving his second term as Telefomin president. His nomination was moved by president of West Wapei LLG, Chris Owir, and seconded by Tommy Waranguai, president of Palai.

Two other leaders Ray Tanji and Bernard Yaurai were also nominated for the position. Remmie secured 17 votes, while Tanji received six votes and two voted for Yaurai. West Sepik Governor and Chairman of the Provincial Assembly, Tony Wouwou, officially declared Remmie as the duly elected deputy governor.

In his acceptance remarks, Remmie said he is committed to supporting the provincial government, strengthening transparency and accountability, and ensuring development reaches all districts in the province.

Members of Parliament for Vanimo–Green River, Beldan Namah, and Aitape–Lumi, Anderson Mise, congratulated Remmie on his election. They expressed confidence that he will work closely with the governor, the Provincial Executive Council, the provincial administration, and leaders across the province to improve service delivery and advance development priorities.

Provincial Assembly staff also acknowledged all nominees and Assembly Members for conducting the election in a transparent, democratic, and orderly manner.
