The National Youth Development Authority (NYDA) and the Central Provincial Government today convened a one-day consultative meeting to address key issues surrounding the establishment of a Provincial Youth Council and preparations for the upcoming Papuan Regional Games.

The meeting comes amid growing concerns from youth leaders and stakeholders over the absence of a properly structured Youth Council in Central Province, as well as the need for early planning, coordination, and inclusive youth participation ahead of the regional sporting event.

Discussions focused on the legal and administrative requirements for establishing a functional and representative Youth Council, clearly defining stakeholder roles and responsibilities, and ensuring youth are meaningfully engaged in both governance and sports development initiatives.

Welcoming the NYDA delegation, Central Province Provincial Administrator Baka Kapa reaffirmed the provincial government’s support for youth development initiatives, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between national and provincial authorities to empower young people across the province.

Narional Youth Development Authority Deputy Director General Roby Duri highlighted the need for strong provincial partnerships to ensure Youth Councils are not only established but are sustainable and effective.

They also provided guidance on possible funding mechanisms and program support to enable councils to deliver meaningful youth programs.

The meeting also discussed host district arrangements for the Papuan Regional Games, with Rigo District identified alongside Kairuku District as part of the hosting framework.

The inclusion of Rigo was noted as an important opportunity to promote grassroots youth participation and regional development.

The one-day consultative meeting is expected to produce clear action points and a coordinated roadmap for youth governance and sports development, strengthening youth representation and participation in Central Province ahead of the Papuan Regional Games.
