K222 million budget for WSP
The West Sepik Provincial Government has announced a K222 million provincial money plan for the year 2026, a slight increase from last year's K215 million.
The budget is more focused on rural service delivery in building roads and infostructures, and reprioritizing maintenance, and rechanneling funds toward education, rural infostructure and primary industry.
Chairman for Finance, Planning and National Functions, Tony WouWou in outlining the budget, says, the 2026 budget is framed to address most of these major development issues in the province.
While acknowledging that the financial resources for West Sepik are limited, the WouWou/Remi government are now focused on generating internal revenue for the province.
"We must embark on new revenue earning policy initiatives in line with the MTDP lV Strategic Priority Area number one.' 'Strategic Economic investment.
"This means diversifying and broadening our revenue base, while at the same time be realistic in revenue collections to achieve our development objectives in line with the theme tor 2026 budget." WouWou said.
Governor WouWou says while there will be some setbacks in delivering basic services, he acknowledges the support from the National Government through the national grants coming through this year.
"We will have to focus on priority areas that support our development objectives and the theme for 2026 budget.
"On a more positive note, most of our external grants have slightly increased and SPG internal Revenue is forecasted to increase in the 2026 money plan." He said.
