Chief Executive Officer of the National Capital District Provincial Health Authority (NCDPHA), Dr. Robin Oge, is urging more people to go for HIV testing to know their status and prevent the spread of the virus.

Dr Oge highlighted that NCDPHA clinics made significant progress in 2025, testing over 45,000 people, including pregnant mothers.

“Knowing your HIV status is the first step to protecting your health and your loved ones,” he said.

A total of 45,160 people were tested last year, with 1,890 new HIV infections detected in the National Capital District.

All newly diagnosed patients have started Antiretroviral Therapy [ART]. About 9,708 patients continue on ART, and 4,388 were tested for viral load. Of these, 94% achieved viral suppression, meaning they are less likely to transmit the virus.

The figures were revealed during a Quarterly Program Review Meeting organized by NCDPHA with partners supporting the NCD HIV program and frontline clinicians.

Dr Oge emphasized that early detection allows people to start treatment quickly, achieve viral suppression, and live healthy, productive lives.
