One of Madang's pioneer taxi operators has condemned last Friday's attack on four male students from Divine Word University by another taxi owner and his associates.

Owner of BFF Taxi Service, Eugene Wanai, described what transpired last Friday as unbecoming, unprofessional, uncivilized, and primitive.

He said, "Taxi operators in Madang Urban have formed the Madang Taxi Service Association last year, and what happened last Friday is totally against the association's by-laws.

"The incident may have caused fear amongst people who rely on our services, but I want to make it very clear that we do not condone such behaviours.

"The association has been very vocal about providing effective and reliable service to our customers. Members of the association strictly observe and operate according to our by-laws.

"Unfortunately, the one responsible for last weekend's incident is not a member of the association."

Wanai said the association respects the lawful process and will allow it to take its cause in dealing with the matter.

He said Madang Taxi Service Association remains committed to protecting its integrity, commitment, and professionalism in its services to their customers.

"I can assure the citizens and public in Madang Town that what occurred last week is not within the association's functions and knowledge," Wanai said.

He also extended heartfelt and sincere apologies to the students concerned, on behalf of the association,
