Voro shines as Broncos crush Eagles in Betfred Championship rout
Papua New Guinea international Gairo Voro claimed Man of the Match honors as the London Broncos dismantled the Sheffield Eagles 48-4 at Cherry Red Records Stadium on Sunday.
The explosive five-eight was a constant threat throughout the Round 10 Betfred Championship clash, capping off a dominant individual performance with a powerful late try that punctuated the 44-point victory. Voro’s ability to break the line and his defensive intensity earned him the top individual accolade in a match where London outclassed their opponents in every department.
The Broncos' attack was bolstered by clinical finishing from their representative stars, with both fullback Morea Morea and forward Epel Kapinias crossing for doubles.
Morea displayed his elite positioning and speed for his two four-pointers, including a spectacular second-half effort where he pounced on a high kick to score. Meanwhile, Kapinias proved unstoppable close to the line, crashing over for his first try in the first half before finishing off a clean break by Dean Hawkins in the second stanza to complete his brace.
The Broncos established control from the opening whistle, with Hawkins scoring within the first minute. London’s forward pack provided the platform for Jimmy Meadows to dictate play, with the playmaker nearly flawless from the tee, converting seven of the Broncos' eight tries.
Sheffield managed to avoid a shutout late in the game when winger Walkley crossed in the corner, but it was a minor blemish on an otherwise perfect afternoon for the London side.
The victory cements London’s position as a serious contender in the Championship, with the form of their Papua New Guinean contingent remaining a focal point for the club’s promotion ambitions.
