Students supported by Mineral Resources Development Company [MRDC] have achieved top academic honors at the University of Goroka [UOG] 29th graduation ceremony.

Two standout graduates received major awards. Kuwimb Hugum, sponsored by Petroleum Resources Moran [PDL5], won the Outstanding Academic Performance Award.

Tonnica Nandie, sponsored by Gas Resources Hides 4, received the TVET Outstanding Academic Performance Award.

They were among 33 students sponsored by MRDC’s landowner subsidiary companies who graduated during the ceremony.

The students come from mining, oil and gas project areas across Papua New Guinea and completed diploma and degree programs.

More than 1,000 students graduated in total.

All sponsored students were supported through MRDC’s Education Subsidy Program, which helps students from resource project communities pay for their studies.

MRDC Managing Director Augustine Mano congratulated the graduates and said education is key to development.

“Education is a key driver of development. These graduates are now in a strong position to contribute to their communities and the country,” he said.

MRDC officials also met with continuing students and new applicants during the graduation to explain the program and its requirements.

Between 2022 and 2025, more than 10,000 students nationwide have been supported under the Education Tuition Fee Subsidy program.

MRDC said it will continue to invest in education to support future generations of Papua New Guinea.
