Solomon boots Sharks into TRL grand final

The Gubuli Sharks have produced a major upset in the Tauruba Rugby League [TRL] competition, stunning reigning premiers the Lamana Eels to book their spot in the 2026 B-grade grand final.

Star player Buga Solomon delivered the game-winner, slotting a pressure-filled penalty goal from beyond the 40-meter line in the closing minutes. The Sharks then held firm through a nerve-wracking final 3 minutes to lock in the victory and end the Eels' title defense.

Gubuli set the tone early with a resolute defensive line before striking first through center Gini Gutuma. Solomon missed the opening conversion, keeping the Sharks at a narrow 4–0 lead.

The reigning champions responded shortly before the break when second-rower Ovia Henry broke through for an impressive solo try. With Lenny Solomon unable to add the extra two points, both sides headed into the sheds locked at 4–4.

The physical intensity surged in the second stanza as both teams traded heavy hits in attack and defense. While the Sharks scrambled hard to patch any gaps against repeated Eels onslaughts, their own sharp play-the-balls and quick ball movement consistently caught the Lamana defenders napping.

A costly late error by the Eels handed the Sharks field position inside the final three minutes. Captain Lakana Suli led from the front, setting the platform for Buga Solomon to slot the decisive two-pointer. The Sharks then repelled one last attack to seal a famous win.

The Gubuli Sharks now advance to next Saturday's decider against the Moragini Diggers.

In the higher-grade title decider, Dogolo United Raiders will face the Lamana Eels after edging out the Moragini Diggers 13–10.
