The Papua New Guinea University of Technology [PNGUoT] is working closely with Okari Campus management to address recent security concerns following an attempted break-in this week.

In a statement released this afternoon by registrar Veronica Thomas, the university said unknown individuals tried to enter the Okari Campus but were unsuccessful.

Campus security responded quickly, and police were called to the scene. The suspects were chased away before they could gain entry.

PNGUoT confirmed that all students at the Okari Campus are safe and accounted for.

The University said it is now working with Okari Campus management and authorities to strengthen security and closely monitor the situation.

“The safety of our students is our priority, and necessary steps are being taken to maintain a safe environment,” the University said in a statement.

PNGUoT also acknowledged concerns raised by the public and said the situation is being handled responsibly.

The University added that on-campus accommodation is already full, and it is working with partners such as the AOG Okari Campus, and the Unitech Catholic and Adventist Colleges to support student housing.

PNGUoT says it remains committed to improving security at the Okari Campus.
