Madang police plan reconciliation and surrender for Transgogol youths
Madang police, led by the Provincial Police Commander, Superintendent Robert Baim are working tirelessly with local community leaders from Transgogol Local Level Government to put an end to the merciless killings and beheadings that have been ongoing in the area for almost ten years.
Baim and the President of Transgogol Local Level Government, Morris Ban, have been holding separate talks with the warring factions in recent times, the latest being this week to talk to them about their plan.
PPC Baim told youths from the two communities that police are trying their very best under his command to help bring peace to them, but that they must be willing to change.
"Change must come from within yourselves and not police. Police officers are only here to help you.
"Law and Order is not your enemy. Law and Order is neutral, and it is here to ensure there is peace in the community," Baim stressed.
He further told them that police would not be with them 24/ 7, and therefore; it is important that they create peace amongst themselves.
Superintendent Baim also highlighted that development will not take place in their area if they do not change their attitudes.
President Ban shared the same sentiments as PPC Baim, stating that continuous police presence in the area shows the government is concerned about the welfare of the people.
"Police presence in our communities is an indication that lawlessness must stop. We can not continue to carry on like this if we want change in our communities. The PPC's presence here is telling us that law and order must prevail," he said.
Mr Ban revealed that the ongoing feud in Transgogol is not with outsiders but between families, and only them have the solution to it.
