Hela Governor Philip Undialu has proposed a Peace and Arms Surrender Program to be held on Wednesday at Kopiago Station in the Koroba Lake Kopiago District, Hela Province.

Governor Undialu says for the past four years, ongoing tribal fights have denied the people basic services, freedom, and opportunities for their children’s future.

"Kopiago, located at the tail end of the highlands highway and serving as the last frontier of Hela Province, holds enormous potential. However, that potential cannot be fully realized while conflict continues," he said.

He stressed that Kopiago was once known for peace and stability during the leadership of Payale Elo, Hakini Peri, and leading into Kendopa Kulagua and many others. He said today, they must restore that legacy for the sake of their children and future generations.

"I now call on all of you, let us bury the past, let us restore our brotherhood, let us stand together, for peace, unity, and development. Say no to tribal fighting, say no to guns, and say yes to peace, unity, and progress," he stated.

Governor Undialu says the return of peace will allow stalled development projects in the province to resume.

He said contractors who left incomplete works will be brought back to continue key projects, including the Kopiago District Hospital, Kopiago High School, the District Administration Office, and the police station and housing.

The Governor added that major road projects are also planned, including the Hagini–Kopiago, Kopiago–Paka, and Kopiago–Hewa roads.

He said sealing works are already progressing from Maria towards Pori, with the next phase expected to extend from Pori to Kopiago.

Governor Undialu also acknowledged local MP William Bando for leading work on the Kopiago–Telefomin Road, describing it as a key inter-provincial link that will improve access and boost trade.

"Let us build on from the above initiatives and what your former and current MPs, together with your LLG presidents, have done in the recent past, including Kopiago road, Kopiago Airstrip, Kopiago LLG Chamber, etc."

"Now is the time to come together, bury the past, and rebuild Kopiago into what it once was and what it can become again. Peace begins with you. The future depends on you." Governor Undialu said.
