Solomon Islands Prime Minister Matthew Wale arrived in Papua New Guinea this morning for a one-day official visit to hold high-level bilateral talks with Prime Minister James Marape.

The brief visit is aimed at enhancing mutual cooperation between the two Melanesian neighbours on trade, mining, security and regional matters.

Wale was received at Jackson’s International Airport by a State delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister John Rosso, Foreign Affairs Minister Justin Tkatchenko, National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop, Chief Secretary to Government Ivan Pomaleu and Foreign Affairs Secretary Elias Wohengu.

A formal guard of honour was accorded to the Solomon Islands leader upon his arrival.

Wale then proceeded to Government House in Port Moresby to pay a courtesy call on Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae.

He will hold formal bilateral talks with Marape later today, where the two leaders are expected to sign the Melanesian Ocean Corridor of Reserves Declaration and the 2026-2030 Development and Economic Cooperation agreement.

Wale and his delegation are scheduled to depart the country at 4pm.
