State power company could be operating illegally

Sinesine Yongomugl MP Kerenga Kua told Parliament today, PNG Power Limited could be operating illegally if its unable to pay its debts, calling the power company insolvent.

Kua highlighted its a crime under the Companies Act.

In a supplementary question today in Parliament, Kua queried the legality of the state power company.

However this was interrupted by a point of order by Prime Minister James Marape.

An adamant Maru reiterated that PNG Power is meeting its daily operational costs and while has outstanding, has to just pay them off.

Apart from owing stakeholders K1.3 billion in debt, it's owed K200 million by Government.
