Ume is new BX-9 interim Welterweight champion
PNG boxer John Ume, aka the Ring Monster, is now the BX-9 interim Welterweight champion after defeating Hamzy Perwaisy last night in Auckland by technical knockout in the seventh round.
The earlier rounds were even as both Ume and Perwaisy exchanged jabs to score.
Ume was composed all through and pull off the show stopper in the seventh round to knock down the New Zealander.
Ume's next bout will be against Riley Allan for the Official Welterweight title early 2027.
Coach Peter Morrision said he is happy with the way Ume dominated the pace of the fight.
"His conditioning and fitness were outstanding and he executed the game plan we wanted,' Morrision said.
"We knew the opponent would be tough, so we prepared for a 10 x round war if required," he added.
Meanwhile in the cruiserweight, Kondup Samson Wailo went down to his opponent Duken Williams by TKO
Despite the loss, Wailo acknowledged all those who helped him to travel to New Zealand for his first International Professional Boxing bout.
