Papua New Guinea’s professional boxer John Ume is grateful for the support he has received from the Sanctuary Hotel and Rapopo Plantation Resort during his recent bout.

This follows after Ume claimed the BX-9 Welterweight Championship title in New Zealand over the weekend.

The two-time boxing Olympian turned professional boxer John Ume has dominated his recent bout in Aotearoa, New Zealand claiming the BX-9 interim Welterweight Championship.

Nicknamed ‘The Ring Monster’, Ume returned into the country early this week after going up against New Zealand’s Hemza Perwaisy.

He said his recent tour overseas was made possible after receiving a massive boost from The Sanctuary Hotel and Rapopo Plantation Resort.

“On behalf of my family, my team, and my coaches, I want to say thank you to Chief James Pang and Sanctuary and Rapopo for supporting me for my finals fight. Without their help, I wouldn't make it to this fight.”

“I'm so glad and humbled to say thank you to the staff. As you know, we won the recent fight event in New Zealand to claim the Welterweight Interim title and we’re going to keep it here until next year,” Ume said.

Ume’s recent win was through a Technical Knock-Out after seven rounds in the ring. The fight was also streamed as a live simulcast via NBC TV and Radio.

Meanwhile Sanctuary Hotel’s part-owner Chief James Pang said it was humbling to watch a young talent dominate the ring over weekend knowing, they had made the right decision to back a champion who’s continues to put PNG on the world map.

Sanctuary came on board to support after coming across a John’s social media post reaching out for sponsorship.

“We proud to have sponsored John Ume and that was well before his fight last Saturday in New Zealand, which he won impressively.

“I'm no expert on boxing, but I can see that John was in control throughout rounds up to round seven. In the seventh round, John attacked his opponent and knocked him down and for that we’re really proud of his achievement.”

Pang also affirmed that they will continue to support John Ume in his pro-boxing journey.

Meanwhile Ume has confirmed he returns to training in two weeks-time with more preparations ahead of another big fight in the next few months
