Women researchers complete Lae training
Twelve women researchers have completed a four-day training in Lae to strengthen their research skills and improve the quality of their work.
The training ended on Thursday, October 8, at Lae International Hotel under the Australian Government-supported Strongim Risets Kapasiti Bilong Ol Meri (SRKBOM) program.
The workshop covered data analysis, research methods, interviewing and reviewing existing studies.
Australian Consul-General Brenton Kanowski said women researchers played an important role in producing evidence to guide decisions and shape policies.
“When women help frame the questions, lead the inquiry and present the evidence, decision-making becomes stronger and more representative,” Mr Kanowski said.
He said Australia was proud to support women’s leadership and research capacity in Papua New Guinea.
Earlier this year, the 12 researchers spent a month in Brisbane and Melbourne to gain experience in the Australian academic environment.
The program also has groups in Port Moresby and Goroka.
A women’s research alumni network was scheduled to launch in Port Moresby on October 9 to help participants maintain professional connections and share knowledge.
