Prime Minister James Marape says a submission to establish the Electoral Boundaries Commission is being processed after East Sepik Governor Allan Bird raised concerns about electoral boundary errors ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Bird, who chairs the Special Parliamentary Committee on Elections, questioned why a submission to establish the commission has reportedly remained with the NEC Secretary for more than 12 months.

The Prime Minister in response said the Government was aware of the issue and was working through the necessary processes.

Marape said the Chief Secretary was handling the matter, and Electoral Commissioner Professor Nicole Haley is expected to provide a full briefing next Tuesday.

Mr Marape said the Government would consider the necessary steps to address boundary issues and support the Electoral Commission ahead of the 2027 elections.
