TISA Group Chief Executive Officer, Michael Koisen says sponsorships may generate publicity and brand exposure, publicity alone is not a member benefit,

The Nambawan Super Limited three-year sponsorship, of the PNG Chief’s Rugby League Club, has been questioned by the TISA Group.

TISA Group Chief Executive Officer, Michael Koisen in a statement says, the TISA Group, wants to know, what the value of the sponsorship is, and what value it will be bringing back to its members.

Koisen says that the primary purpose of a superannuation fund is to protect, grow and safeguard the retirement savings of its members, and he is not sure, if such a high-profile sports sponsorship, should be a priority to use member funds.

He says that the issue is not whether rugby league is popular, but they are concern if such expenditure delivers a measurable benefit to its members.

Mr. Koisen also says that the members have a right to know how much of their money has been committed, what financial return is expected from the sponsorship, how it will be measured, and will the sponsorship improve retirement outcomes for its members.

He further adds that those funds would have been better directed toward member services, fee reductions, digital improvements, financial literacy initiatives, or enhancing long-term investment performance.

Mr. Koisen further adds that while sponsorships may generate publicity and brand exposure, publicity alone is not a member benefit, and the critical question is whether the expenditure creates value that can be objectively demonstrated and justified.
