The newly elected New Ireland Provincial Member, Byron Chan, has been formally sworn in as the Member for the New Ireland Provincial Electorate.

The swearing-in ceremony was conducted by the Speaker of Parliament, Job Pomat, with Parliament Clerk Kala Aufa in attendance.

Mr Chan made his declarations of loyalty and office before the Speaker, officially taking his seat in Parliament as New Ireland’s provincial representative.

The former Namatanai MP won the recent provincial by-election following the passing of his father, former Prime Minister and long-serving New Ireland leader Sir Julius Chan, last year.

Mr Chan says he is focused on delivering for the people of New Ireland during the remaining 10 months of this parliamentary term, ahead of the 2027 National General Elections.
