Fifita excited to lead Aus PM XIIIs side
South Sydney Rabbitohs prop David Fifita is excited to lead the Australian Prime Minister’s XIIIs side this weekend.
Named captain ahead of their arrival in Port Moresby today, Fifita said this was his time coming to compete in Port Moresby.
“It’s my first time here as I've heard all the stories, all the boys talk about it but for me to be here, I'm blessed and experiencing it means so much to me.”
“It’s going to be a tough game, obviously PNG side is always physical, some of them are built just like me and bring depth to this match. We know what to expect from them, it will not be an easy match but we’re looking forward to it.”
Meanwhile Australian PMs XIII Head Coach Ben Te’o said it feels great to return to PNG for another weekend of rugby at the National Football Stadium.
“It’s always great to play a game of footy here, coach Queensland Cup games but it's exciting to bring a youth group over here, for them to experience it too.”
Te’o who’s also a 2013 PMs XIIIs rep said this year’s side led by captain Fifita comprises of experienced and debutants who are ready to represent this Saturday.
“It's a young team, a-lot of these guys have recently broken into the NRL in the last two or three years. A lot of them are up-and-coming rep players, so this is a good taste for them, they’ve come over to compete against a good Papua New Guinean side,”he said.
Meanwhile Australian side will also feature the Women’s PM XIIIs match, Australian School Boys and School Girls who take on the Junior PNG Kumuls and Orchids host this Saturday.
