Tifalmin road opening ends 50 years of isolation in Telefomin
The people of Tifalmin in Telefomin District celebrated a historic milestone on Thursday with the official opening of the Tifalmin Road, ending more than 50 years of isolation for the remote community.
Hundreds of residents dressed in traditional attire gathered to witness the occasion, marking the long-awaited road opening with excitement, singing and cultural performances.
The new road is expected to bring major economic and social benefits to the area, improving access to government services, markets, healthcare and education.
Located in one of the country’s most remote districts, the Tifalmin community has for decades relied on limited and costly transport options to connect with the rest of the province.
The road was constructed by Kayop Investment Limited under the Ok Tedi Tax Credit Scheme.
The Tifalmin Road forms part of the government’s flagship Connect PNG program, extending connectivity from the main Tabubil–Telefomin Highway.
