Kutubu Access Road cut off after heavy rain
The Kutubu Access Road in the Nipa Kutubu District of Southern Highlands Province has been cut off after heavy rain washed out a section of road and a culvert near Pimaga Government Station.
Reserve Constable Benedict Paul said the Unami River burst its banks during the downpour on Sunday night, washing away the road base at a section near Bugi Buni village.
He said the section is heavily damaged and will need some time to repair.
According to Mr. Paul, PMVs are using the damaged section to exchange passengers and goods, while semitrailers carrying cargo for the Kutubu PNG LNG Project have turned back.
He said the heavy rain fell continuously through the night, accompanied by lightning and thunder.
Motorists have been urged to take extra precaution when travelling in the area.
