Students and teachers at Tubusereia Junior High School in Central Province now have access to high-speed internet for the first time following the installation of a Starlink satellite connection.

The internet service, provided by Lightspeed PNG in partnership with Pasivika Konnect, is expected to improve teaching, learning, school administration and communication by giving the school reliable online access.

For years, the school has had limited or no reliable internet, making it difficult for students and teachers to access online educational resources and digital learning opportunities.

Lightspeed PNG Chief Executive Officer Richard Broadbridge said connecting rural schools was part of an effort to improve access to technology for communities outside the reach of traditional communication networks.

“Tubusereia Junior High School is a great example of what Pasivika Konnect is here to do, putting connectivity directly into the hands of the schools, health centres, and communities that need it most, in a way that is safe, managed, and genuinely beneficial,” Mr Broadbridge said.

He said the connection includes a monthly data allowance to support learning and community use, while internet content is managed and filtered to provide a safe online environment for students.

Mr Broadbridge said the organisation hopes to work with government, businesses and development partners to extend similar internet services to more rural schools, health centres and communities across Papua New Guinea.
