Hela Province will run its own police recruitment exercise this year, separate from the national program.

Governor Philip Undialu announced the move after formally requesting approval from Police Commissioner David Manning and the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) recruitment team.

A recruitment team from the RPNGC is scheduled to be in Hela from 17th to 21st August, 2026. The team will conduct the exercise in line with National Police Headquarters requirements and procedures.

Mr. Undialu thanked Commissioner David Manning and Hela Provincial Police Commander Mairi Arau for their support and approval to conduct this dedicated recruitment exercise for Hela.

“This important decision is part of our broader police capacity-building program aimed at strengthening law and order in the province.” He said.

Governor Undialu said Hela has long struggled with limited police numbers, manpower shortages, and few pathways for local youths to join the disciplined forces.

“This dedicated recruitment now gives eligible young men and women from Hela a direct and fair opportunity to serve their province and country with pride, discipline, and integrity,” he said.

Governor Undialu says the initiative is part of a long-term plan to build a stronger, more responsive, and locally representative police presence and urged all eligible applicants, particularly Grade 12 school leavers, FODE, and TVET graduates, to prepare in advance and be ready when official details are released.
