PM launches K1.1 billion road projects in Vanimo
The Marape-Rosso Government has delivered on its Connect PNG Program in West Sepik, launching K1.1 billion road projects that will give people of the province proper road links.
Prime Minister James Marape and the Minister for Works and Highways Peter Tsiamalili Jr officiated at the launch at the Vanimo town oval witnessed by all four districts MPs of West Sepik, including the general public.
PM Marape and minister Tsiamalili Jr officially launched two major sealing projects for Vanimo-Green river road, costing K726 million, and Sepik Highway from Warasikau to Lumi-Karaitem road at the cost of K374m.
Marape told the people of West Sepik that his government is committed to connecting the rural population to services and markets.
"This government focused on empowering rural Papua New Guinea. This is where 85 per cent of Papua New Guineans are,"PM said.
Tsiamalili Jr assured residents that the roads will bring much-needed services and development to the province.
"The construction for the Sepik Highway between Warasikau and Lumi is a major step forward for inland community. This road is not just a district road, it is a development corridor," he said.
After the road launch, the Prime Minister officially opened two new classrooms at Vanimo Primary School.
The facilities include a four-in-one double classroom and a single classroom funded by the Department of Works and Highways and the Ok Tedi Tax Credit Scheme.
