El Nino top agenda

El Nino, its funding and preparedness was top of the agenda as parliament resumed this afternoon.

Southern Highlands Governor William Powi asked a series of supplementary questions to Health Minister Dr Billy Joseph on El Nino prepardness, funding and its impacts on the health and education sectors.

Western Highlands Governor Wai Rapa backed up his counterpart with similar questions.

The prolonged dry season is now having serious impacts on provinces with severe consequeses.

It is affecting communities, and health and education services.

Southern Highlands Governors William Powi says the country needs to know what the government is doing to assist the country at this time.

Govwrnor Wai Rapa told the house to declare it as a state of emergency and set up a task force to assist with the el nino impacts.

Health Minister Dr. Billy told the house he will provide detailed answers during this sitting as this an issue that concerns the whole country.
