Enga disaster office assesses hailstorm damage in Pilikambi
The Enga Provincial Disaster Office has visited Pilikambi to assess the hailstorm damage, with further household surveys and data collection planned in the coming days.
A team from the Disaster Office, DPI office, GESI, Climate Change Office and Community Development office from the provincial government went to the hailstorm affected sites in Pilikambi the next day to view the extent of the damage caused and establish communication.
“What we actually did today was that we’ve achieved was that we’ve established communication network.
“Probably tomorrow and the next day we'll be going over there, we’ve established the coordination mechanism already so what we basically so what we basically will be doing tomorrow is getting back to the area to do household surveys and collecting more data,” said Ignas Nembo the On-site Disaster Coordinator with the Enga Disaster Management Office after the trip to Pilikambi.
When questioned about the coordination of relief supplies to the affected communities Mr. Nembo said the Provincial Disaster Office is assisting the District Development Authority to conduct proper survey and produce necessary data reports so the Laiagam DDA can correctly supply relief to the four hailstorm affected Wards.
He said 2.5 million kina has been given to respective DDA’s in the country to cater to El Nino disasters and for Pilikambi’s situation the Laiagam DDA will be funding the relief supply.
