LLG presidents in Daru undergo induction training to strengthen governance
Western Province has commenced training of its local level government [LLG] leaders in Daru to address gaps in governance and improve how services reach communities at the ward level.
The week-long training started on Wednesday and brought together LLG presidents from the province’s four districts and managers who are also attending as observers.
Induction on the first day focused on national laws, government policies, and the roles and responsibilities of local leaders under the Organic Law on Provincial and Local Level Government.
The program is designed to equip newly elected leaders with the knowledge and skills needed to carry out their duties effectively, while promoting proper governance and better service delivery at the grassroots.
PA Kaiyun said the induction is a critical step in strengthening leadership in Western.
“The induction is an important step towards building capable and informed local leaders who can represent their people and strengthen governance at the grassroots level,” he said.
He told participants that poor coordination between decision makers and implementers has held back service delivery in the province for years, and that clarity of roles must start at the ward level.
DPLGA will also conduct a Training of Trainers [ToT] workshop for all LLG managers next week.
The workshop aims to prepare managers to return to their districts and conduct inductions for ward members on governance and administrative functions.
Officials say the two-part training is part of a broader effort to align provincial, district, LLG and ward planning with the Organic Law’s intent of bottom-up development.
